CANAL+ has affirmed that the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games will be broadcast live on SuperSport across Sub-Saharan Africa, giving millions of viewers the chance to follow the event from 23 July to 2 August 2026. More than 500 athletes from Africa are expected to compete, making this one of the most exciting editions of the Commonwealth Games. SuperSport will provide live coverage throughout the 11-day event, with a strong focus on African competitors.
To ensure fans do not miss any action, SuperSport will launch two dedicated Commonwealth Games channels. These channels will cover the biggest events, highlight Africa’s medal contenders, and offer additional competitions on overflow channels and streaming platforms. A third dedicated channel, available on SuperSport Maximo 2 and 3, will focus on Mozambican athletes.

He stated the special coverage of African athletes reflects the company’s commitment to providing sports content that matters most to its audiences across the continent. The Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games will feature 10 sports and six para sports, with competitions taking place at four major venues across the city, including Scotstoun Stadium, the Scottish Event Campus, the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome and Arena, and the Tollcross International Swimming Centre.
East Africa will once again be represented by some of the continent’s top long-distance runners. Tanzania’s team includes Alphonse Simbu, Gabriel Geay, Jackline Sakilu, Failuna Abdi Matanga, and rising star Joseph Panga, who will all be aiming for medals. Nigeria will arrive with one of Africa’s strongest squads, featuring star hurdler Tobi Amusan, long jumper Ese Brume, weightlifters Rafiatu Lawal and Adijat Olarinoye, and shot put champion Chukwuebuka Enekwechi.
Ghana’s hopes will rest on sprinters Benjamin Azamati, Abdul-Rasheed Saminu, Joseph Paul Amoah, Edwin Gadayi, and high jumper Rose Amoanimaa Yeboah. Portuguese-speaking African countries will also be represented by leading athletes, including boxers Alcinda Panguana, Rady Gramane, Ivanusa Moreira, hurdler Jordin Andrade from Cabo Verde, and Angolan sprinter Marcos Santos. French-speaking African nations will be led by Olympic and world-class athletes Soufiane El Bakkali and Marie-Josée Ta Lou-Smith, alongside Louis François Mendy, Cheikh Diouf, and Côte d’Ivoire sprinter Arthur Cissé.
South African fans will be looking forward to seeing swimming star Chad le Clos compete once again as he aims to add more Commonwealth medals to his collection. Other top South African athletes include sprinter Akani Simbine, world champion swimmer Pieter Coetzé, javelin thrower Jo-Anè van Dyk, and 400m runner Lythe Pillay. Viewers across Southern Africa can watch the Games live on SuperSport Variety 3 and SuperSport Variety 4, while audiences in the rest of Sub-Saharan Africa can tune in to SuperSport Africa 1 and SuperSport Africa 2, which will be renamed SuperSport Commonwealth 1 and SuperSport Commonwealth 2 for the tournament.
