The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has apprehended the prime suspect in the murder of Technical University of Kenya (TUK) lecturer Edgar Mokua, marking a breakthrough in investigations into the lecturer's mysterious disappearance earlier this month. Homicide detectives arrested the suspect after forensic investigations linked his vehicle to the disposal of Mokua's body. According to the DCI, the suspect was tracked down and apprehended at Ruiru Blue Estate, while the vehicle believed to have been used in the crime, a grey Toyota Ractis, was recovered at Murera Farm in Juja.
Detectives stated the vehicle became the key piece of evidence that assisted investigators identify and locate the suspect." Through forensic and technical analysis, we were able to link a specific motor vehicle to the disposal of the body, and this became the breakthrough that guided the rest of the operation,"The DCI stated. Mokua was last seen leaving his home in Princes Park, Lavington, at about 4:20pm on July 6, 2026, but he never returned, prompting his family to report him missing at Muthangari Police Station after their search proved unsuccessful.
Five days later, his body was discovered near Woodcreek Academy before being transferred to the City Mortuary by officers from Kiamumbi Police Station. Following the discovery, the case was handed over to homicide detectives, who kicked off reconstructing the lecturer's final movements before his death. Investigators established that Mokua spent several hours at entertainment spots in Lavington with two men and a woman before the group later moved to another venue in the area.
Detectives said Mokua's companions eventually left him behind at the entertainment venue, marking the last affirmed sighting of the lecturer before his body was later found dumped near Woodcreek Academy. The DCI stated the suspect is currently in custody undergoing processing ahead of his arraignment, while the recovered Toyota Ractis has been detained as an exhibit. Investigations into the murder are still ongoing as detectives seek to establish the motive behind the killing and determine whether other individuals were involved in the lecturer's death.
