Kalshi threatened Netflix with a defamation suit over a recent trailer for the upcoming documentary The Prediction Games, premiering Sunday on the streamer. Following a court order requiring the prediction market app block sports-related markets in Nevada, Kalshi’s lawyers sent Netflix a cease-and-desist over footage from the trailer showing traders celebrating their Kalshi earnings from the recent World Cup final, while partying in Las Vegas. The letter, which was obtained by CNN, asserts Netflix’s trailer contains“Misleading statements portraying trades being made on Kalshi in violation of a court order,”to which the app states it is complying after a lawsuit brought by the Nevada Gaming Commission.
In response, Netflix informed the outlet that although the event was filmed last weekend in Sin City, the most prominent trade depicted in the trailer was placed in 2025, long before the court order. “The featured trader, with the trades on Spain, showed us a screenshot of his bet that was made in May 2025, prior to any Nevada court order,”a Netflix spokesperson informed CNN. Kalshi, whose CEO Tarek Mansour appears in the doc, further asserted that the screenshot was“Fabricated,”noting that it includes terms like“Bet slip,”which do not appear on the site, which avoids using gambling terms.
While Kalshi isn’t legally considered a gambling platform, as the app is regulated like commodity trading, multiple states have filed lawsuits to enforce gaming laws.
