(Image: Simon Emmett/PR handout) The new Oasis documentary about the band’s extraordinary reunion tour will get its premiere at the Venice film festival with both Liam and Noel Gallagher attending. The 83rd Venice Film Festival unveiled this year’s lineup today, with artistic director Alberto Barbera launching the cinematic event at the Biennale Library in Venice.
And amongst the new films being shown is Don’t Look Back In Anger, the documentary made by Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight. Sources close to the Oasis project had informed The Mirror that both the Gallagher brothers are poised to attend the screening of the film, as well as the director Knight. The film is then expected to get a London premiere days later, before it is dropped in cinemas on September 11.
It will also be streamed on Disney+ later in the year. The Oasis film was named in the section of the festival called ‘Out of Competition - Non Fiction’. The running time was given as just over two hours, being 122 minutes.
It is one of a total of 4,300 films being shown there. President Alberto Barbera stated:“Oasis, Don’t Look Back In Anger, a film we have heard about recently. It is the exciting story that follows the the two brothers who have not spoken to each other for 12 years that dissolved one of the most famous rock bands in England at the time, but after so many years they unexpectedly reconcile and they start rehearsing for the formidable world tour that would follow.
“The film follows the rehearsals and the tour and the impact of the tour on the fans of Oasis, who again can find their idols re-proposing the songs they loved so much, years before.” He added with a smile:“The Gallagher brothers have promised they will be in Venice.” Liam and Noel Gallagher on stage in Toronto in August 2025.
(Image: AP) Fans were given a sneak preview of the documentary on July 4 - exactly a year after the Oasis Live 25 tour rolled out in Cardiff - when the first trailer for the documentary dropped. It displayed the brothers heading to rehearsals after not speaking for 16 years following a furious off-stage bust-up. “I just don’t see myself on stage with Liam.
I just don’t see it,”Noel, 59, states in the preview. Liam, 53, adds:“The way it finished – unacceptable.” Liam appeared to be referring to a bust up the brothers had in Paris.
Oasis split following a backstage clash between the Gallaghers at Rock en Seine festival in Paris in 2009. After tension between the pair for months on the road there was a backstage brawl before Noel stepped away from Oasis on August 28 2009, stating he"Simply could not go on working with Liam a day longer”. But thankfully, the brothers have now made up and it is believed Liam made the first move to patch things up.
On X, Liam said to a fan in 2024: "I called him but don’t tell anyone as I don't want folk thinking I’m a soft lad and stuffs keep it between me n you cheers x." The reply was filled with humour which is typical of Liam's responses on social media. The new documentary Don’t Look Back In Anger charts Liam and Noel Gallagher’s triumphant reunion tour Oasis Live ’25, which kicked off in Wales and was one of the most anticipated rock ‘n’ roll comebacks of our time.
The film is described as“An unapologetically uplifting account”of arguably the biggest musical event of 2025, capturing the experience, sounds and emotions of the band and their fans across the world. It includes access to unseen rehearsals, backstage conversations and moments onstage, as well as the first joint interviews with Noel and Liam in over 25 years. Alongside the band’s sold-out world tour, the film also explores the emotional impact of this tour and what their music meant to audiences and generations of millions of people worldwide.
Director Knight has already spoken about the project and how excited he is for fans to watch it. He stated:“I genuinely cannot wait for the world to see this film. I believe it captures the spirit and emotion of a global cultural moment and does justice to the wit and genius of two exceptional people.
“I wanted to tell the story of the brothers and the band, but just as important, the story of the fans whose lives the music has touched and sometimes changed forever. It is also the story of how music and songwriting can unite generations, cultures, countries and in a time of spite and division, give us all some reason to hope.” The 83rd Venice International Film Festival is organised by the Venice Biennale and directed by Alberto Barbera; it will take place at the Venice Lido from September 2 to 12, 2026.
The Festival is officially recognised by the FIAPF (International Federation of Film Producers' Associations). There are also strong but unconfirmed rumours about more Oasis shows next year. Earlier this month venue sources have reported to the Manchester Evening News that the group are planning an epic 12-night residency at Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium in May and June 2027.
