Recently, The Rolling Stones’ own Keith Richards shared his secret to longevity. (Sadly, it’s mostly just rest, and not, like, a magic elixir made of dirt and troll blood. ) Now, bandmate Mick Jagger has decided to weigh in on mortality, and the swagger lord himself hasn’t enjoy getting older one bit.
“There’s nothing good about it,”Jagger informed New York Times’ The Interview podcast. “Nothing. You don’t get wisdom.
You forget everything. Forgot all my wisdom.” Off the top of my head, I could think of lots of reasons why the 82-year-old Jagger might like being old: getting to fall asleep whenever/wherever you want; building a long canon of important work (The Stones just dropped their 25th album, Foreign Tongues); getting free stuff and preferential treatment (outside of being a rock god); and feeling as if you never have to impress a living soul ever again.
“It’s not particularly pleasant and, of course, you can’t do things as quickly as you want to, and physically you can’t do things that you would like to do. You can still do them, but you have to be more careful.” Now, you might wonder why a guy who has been renowned for the last 60-plus years might hate getting older (aside from no longer playing on his amateur kickball league).
As it turns out, Jagger actually shared a gem that might at least partially explain why getting older might have hit him extra hard. When questioned specifically about fame and his relationship with the“Outside world,”Jagger had this to say:“Obviously, it’s not normal. It is not like most people’s lives.
It does affect you. You can become disassociated. From other people.”
(Social isolation and loneliness pose a number of health and wellbeing risks among the old/elderly. ) Mr. Jagger, if you’d like to just hang out, we can do some dope life-affirming things, like jet-skiing down waterfalls or even just attending a Geese concert.
