The Stanbic Kenya Foundation has rolled out a modern Digital Learning Centre at ACK Kiamuringa School in Embu County to help improve digital education and create new opportunities for students and the local community. As part of the project, the Foundation donated 30 computers to set up the school’s first fully equipped ICT laboratory. The new facility is expected to improve digital literacy, support better learning, and prepare young people for opportunities in the digital economy.
The ICT lab will serve about 200 students and 23 teachers at the school. It will also be open to local youth and community members outside school hours, giving them access to digital skills training, online learning, and resources that can help them prepare for technology-related jobs. Speaking during the launch, Stanbic Kenya Foundation Head Mercy Githanji stated digital skills have become essential in today’s world.
She added that the computers will improve classroom learning, support teachers, and help young people become more employable. The project is part of Stanbic Bank Kenya’s wider corporate social investment programme, which focuses on education, entrepreneurship, and job creation under its national purpose,“Kenya is our home, we drive her growth.” Through partnerships with schools and other institutions, the Foundation hopes to expand access to technology and support sustainable development in communities across the country.
ACK Kiamuringa School Principal Joseph Mwaniki welcomed the donation, stating it marks an important milestone for the school. He noted that students previously had very limited access to practical computer lessons, but the new ICT laboratory will strengthen the teaching of STEM subjects, better prepare learners for a digital future, and provide teachers with modern teaching tools. He stated opening the facility to the local community will help create more learning and employment opportunities for young people.
Since 2021, the Stanbic Kenya Foundation has partnered with various organizations to equip women, young people, and micro, small, and medium-sized businesses (MSMEs) with digital skills. Through its Future ni Digital platform, learners can access training at beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels. Since 2019, more than 250,000 have received digital skills training through the programme.
By investing in digital learning infrastructure and providing access to technology at the community level, the Stanbic Kenya Foundation is supporting the Government of Kenya’s Digital Masterplan. The initiative aims to improve digital literacy, create community technology hubs, generate jobs, and encourage innovation across the country.
