TikTok has removed 884,591 videos in Kenya for violating its Community Guidelines during the first quarter of 2026, as the platform intensified efforts to curb harmful content and improve online safety. According to TikTok's Q1 2026 Community Guidelines Enforcement Report, it removed 48,739 accounts belonging to users under the age of 13, in line with its policies prohibiting children under the minimum age requirement from using the app. The report also outlined TikTok's growing use of artificial intelligence (AI) to detect and remove content that breaches its rules before it reaches a wider audience.
According to the company, AI-led moderation now accounts for more than 96 per cent of all content removals globally, allowing harmful videos to be identified and taken down faster. TikTok stated the latest crackdown is part of its ongoing commitment to making the platform safer for users in Kenya while increasing transparency around how it enforces its rules. Besides removing videos, TikTok stated it is continuing to strengthen safety measures around TikTok LIVE, introducing tougher enforcement of its LIVE monetisation rules to ensure creators follow the platform's policies.
The company noted that more LIVE creators and LIVE sessions were either demonetised or issued warnings during the quarter as part of efforts to maintain a safe and authentic livestreaming experience. TikTok said it is expanding transparency around AI-generated content through investments in technology and industry partnerships to help users distinguish between authentic and synthetic media. The report further notes that automated moderation has become key to TikTok's enforcement efforts, with AI systems identifying and removing most of the violating content without human intervention.
The company stated these efforts are aimed at protecting users from harmful, fraudulent, and misleading content while ensuring the platform remains a safe space for creativity and entertainment.
