The actor now discloses the major difference between Christopher Nolan’s epic and his upcoming MCU movie’s sets. During an interview with 100 Questions with Tom Simons, Tom Holland stated the biggest difference between Nolan’s filmmaking process and Marvel Studios’ projects is the preparation.
According to Holland, Nolan’s filmmaking approach is far more practical, with extensive planning around the making process before the cameras even begin rolling. He mentioned that the cast and crew follow a highly structured and scheduled plan in advance during production. He also noted that Nolan’s script barely changed at all between his first read and the dropped film.
In contrast, Marvel movies often take a more flexible approach in their production. While their filmmaking also requires significant planning, he noted that productions can undergo some changes. Sometimes, the actors would go into sets without finished scripts and improvise their way through a scene.
Holland also emphasized Nolan’s commitment to practical filmmaking. He pointed out that most of the film’s biggest scenes are created live with a camera rather than relying heavily on CGI. Referring to an important sequence, he mentioned that Nolan used animatronics, clever camera angles, and actors performing complex scenes on set instead of graphics.
Holland’s comments highlight the differences between both filmmaking styles rather than suggesting one approach is better than the other. These different experiences have taught him valuable lessons and offered different perspectives on making large-scale blockbuster films.
