Some love stories begin with fireworks, romantic music, and two people instantly knowing they have found“The one.” It kicked off with a film set, two actors from different countries, and one very strong feeling:“I don’t think I like this person.” Their love story started on the set of BORDERS, a project that brought together Tania from Uganda and Quincy from Kenya.
Quincy was initially skeptical about coming to Uganda for the show. It was just another acting job, and he had no idea that stating yes to the production would eventually lead him to his future wife. Tania, on the other hand, was not exactly waiting for a Kenyan actor to walk into her life and change everything.
In fact, their first meeting was far from a romantic movie scene. There were no butterflies, no dramatic slow-motion moments, and definitely no“Love at first sight.” According to Tania, she was genuinely not a fan of Quincy at the beginning.
She hated his guts and hated the fact that he was being treated differently. She thought that he was someone she just had to tolerate until the final scene wrapped. But somehow, somewhere between rehearsals, conversations, and spending time together, something unexpected happened.
The person they initially didn’t like became the person they couldn’t imagine life without. What started as a professional relationship slowly turned into friendship, and that friendship eventually became love. A plot twist even a good screenwriter might struggle to create.
Quincy was in Nairobi. Tania was in Kampala. Neither of them had plans to relocate, and there was no obvious roadmap for where this relationship was going.
Basically, they were trying to build a love story across borders with nothing but commitment, patience, and very costly travel and phone bills. For three years, mostly through long distance, they kept choosing each other. They proved that love does not need to live in the same city to survive.
Through calls, tours, laughter, misunderstandings, and all the little challenges that come with being apart, they built something stronger than the distance between them. Along the way, they discovered they had so much in common: their spirituality, their dreams, values, sense of humour, and passion for storytelling. The same two people who once couldn’t stand being around each other had somehow become each other’s biggest supporters.
And just like a good movie, the story reached its beautiful turning point. A few weeks ago, Tania and Quincy marked their traditional wedding, officially beginning a new chapter together. Their journey is proof that sometimes the person you least expect can become the person you need the most.
Sometimes love does not knock politely at the door; it walks in wearing a different accent, carrying a different passport, and annoying you first. From BORDERS to forever, Tania and Quincy’s love story is one for the books. And somewhere, their first meeting is probably still laughing because neither of them saw this coming.
